I was given a box of Snowskin Mooncakes to sample by Yan Ting at St. Regis Singapore. Not a huge fan of the traditional baked mooncake, I prefer Snowskin Mooncakes because chefs have more flexibility to play with flavours and thus offer diners a wide variety of flavour combinations to tickle the fickle palate.

This year, Yan Ting has created five new flavours of snowskin mooncakes. As I don't eat durian (had too much in my youth) nowadays, I was glad that they didn't give me the Pure 'Mao Shan Wang' Durian Snowskin Mooncake in  my box of assorted mooncakes.

Amongst the four flavours, my favourite was the Royal Milk Tea Snowskin Mooncake with Red Bean Paste and White Chocolate Champagne Truffle (the one in foreground with a white chocolate ball encased within the mooncake). Even though I'm not a fan of red bean paste, the rich creaminess of the White Chocolate Champagne Truffle helped to counter the distinctive flavour of red bean paste, which was thankfully not too overwhelming in the quarter piece of mooncake that I sampled. The alcohol factor was not overwhelming and the flavour of the mooncake was well-balanced. Definitely a Must-Try!

To the left of the Royal Milk Tea Snowskin Mooncake is the Mixed Berries Snowskin Mooncake with Strawberry Paste. I love mixed berry smoothies. This mooncake reminded me of a smoothie, albeit a little sweeter and a far denser version. I'm not crazy about sweet potatoes but the Purple Sweet Potato Snowskin Mooncake was rather interesting as was the Green Tea Snowskin Mooncake with Melon Seeds. The latter reminded me of Chinese Winter Melon pastry, that is often referred to as "Wife Cake", but with the lovely antioxidant goodness of Green Tea. These 3 flavours were just a little too sweet for my liking and paled in comparison to the Royal Milk Tea Snowskin Mooncake with Red Bean Paste and White Chocolate Champagne Truffle.
