Fried Hokkien Mee @ Food Republic, VivoCity

The last time I ate the Fried Hokkien Mee at Food Republic in VivoCity, there was a very long line of people waiting and the noodles were awful.

On my recent visit with relatives, I thought I should give it another shot as there was hardly anyone in the queue (we were pretty early). I ordered a plate to share.

Fried Hokkien Mee @ Food Republic, VivoCity
Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodles @ abt S$5.50

I can't recall how much I paid for the noodles but this being one of the most expensive foodcourts in Singapore, the price would be quite a bit higher than the foodcourts/hawker centres.

Anyway, with a shorter queue, the hawker was able to fry the noodles with more care. The thick egg noodles (aka Sek Mee in Singaporean lingo) and thick rice noodles (aka Chor Bee Hoon in Singaporean lingo) had absorbed the rich flavours of the prawn stock. I didn't eat the prawns as I already had quite a few in my Laksa dish but the squid was fresh and sweet. Though the chili sauce was rather tasty, it was a little too sweet for my taste. Besides, the noodles tasted pretty good on their own so I skipped the oily chili sauce and had the noodles.

This is a Must-Try only if there isn't a long queue (ie. go at off-peak times).

I've forgotten the name of the stall but its located close to the Laksa and Ngoh Hiang stalls (opposite the area occupied by Pu Tien Kitchen).
