Borobudor is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is on my bucket list.  It's one of the many places that I want to visit in my lifetime. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to visit this monument over the past weekend.

Ayam Goreng Kremesan @ IDR 25,000

I was also thrilled to have been introduced by our travel operator to an awesome fried chicken dish during my stay in Jogjakarta (aka Yogyakarta). Covering the fried chicken are deep-fried, crispy and almost fluffy crumbles that are both salty with a touch of spice (probably shallots). The airy flakes seemed to melt on the tongue, almost like a non-popping version of Pop Rocks (aka Peta Zeta). I found the flakes rather salty so they are best eaten with steamed rice and the piquant chili that is served with it (look for the redder version).  The chicken was well-marinated with spices like ground coriander seed, ginger, shallots and garlic. The flesh was moist close to the bone but a little dry around the rib cage, guess this because they wanted to fry the surfaces to a fragrant crisp. Dryness aside, this is definitely a Must-Try.

Soto Madura

Soto Ayam Madura

I'm not sure if the price above includes the steamed rice, the raw vegetables, the crackers and the bowl of Soto Ayam Madura (Spicy Chicken Soup) but I was told that it's a standard set. I loved the mung bean vermicelli (aka tang hoon) in the soup as the strands had absorbed the rich flavours of the turmeric-coloured stock. I love soups but the chicken had filled me up so much that I couldn't finish the bowl above.

Ayam Goreng Kremesan - accompaniments

If you like crackers (aka Keropok), the slightly sweet, white crackers above (believe they were made from tapioca) are worth a try. The crackers were a little hard. Fearing that I may chip my teeth again, I didn't indulge too much but the other folks in the group loved it.

Kopi Jahe @ NY Suharti

Kopi Jahe (Ginger Coffee) @ IDR 7,000

Needing a coffee fix, I ordered the Kopi Jahe. The coffee was not as strong as I would have liked it but perhaps it was deliberately so to ensure that we can taste the flavour of the ginger. The "heat" from the ginger made for a tummy warming cup in more ways than one. This is also a Must-Try.
