During the May Day holiday, I met with some of my gal pals for an early morning walk at the Singapore Botanic Gardens with our dogs. After the walk, we settled down for breakfast at Café Les Amis. This is our favourite dog-friendly place in Singapore as they provide water bowls for the dogs and we hope it stays this way. Unfortunately, seats at this café are limited so do go early or be prepared to wait at least 20 - 30 minutes for a table.

I was famished and ordered a Waffle with freshly-whipped cream (which was served with maple syrup). It was excellent as the waffle was crisp on the outside and had a fluffy interior. It went perfectly with the cream and marinated strawberries. I do not like maple syrup so I didn't add any to the waffle. This is a Must-Try if you happen to be in the vicinity.

I was still feeling peckish after the waffle, so I ordered a chicken congee. It didn't taste too bad however, the overly-salted, tough and stringy chicken bits made the entire experience worse. I should have stuck to my philosophy of eating congee only at Cantonese restaurants (or at least a Chinese restaurant, if a Cantonese one is unavailable).

I'm going to stick to my waffle the next time I visit.
