Pasta de Waraku - The Central

I went to Pasta de Waraku with some colleagues some months back. It was my first time there as I generally prefer Italian pasta though I do make exceptions for the Spaghetti with Abalone & Salmon Roe at Angus Steak House.

Here's a picture of the condiment tray, I like how its labelled clearly.

Salad @ Pasta de Waraku.JPG

Apparently, every order of a pasta dish here entitles you to a small bowl of salad. It was tossed in a delicious Wafu dressing, which was very refreshing.

Littleneck Clam Soup Pasta.JPG

I ordered the Littleneck Clam Soup Pasta thinking that it would be like a soupier vongole. Unfortunately, it didn't quite turn out the way I expected and tasted more like a watered down version of Spaghetti Vongole. I couldn't bear to eat it as I felt that this was definitely not worth the calories. I decided to order another pasta dish to replace it. The manager who took my second order was very concerned when I told her to hurry with the 2nd pasta dish and that she could take my original pasta dish away. She asked me what was wrong with the dish and I told her that the broth was so bland that it tasted like someone had forgotten to drain the water from the pasta and had added a ladleful of pasta water into the broth. She apologized and took the dish away.

Wafu Scallop & Asparagus Pasta.JPG

I decided to order a safer option which was Wafu Scallop & Asparagus Spaghetti (S$12.80). It was delicious and definitely a much tastier replacement. Although the spaghetti was not al dente, this was nonetheless not too bad for a Japanese pasta dish.

The surprise came when the bill arrived, the manager had waived the charges for my first bowl of pasta. I told her that I didn't mind paying for the first bowl as its likely that my taste differs from other clients who might have enjoyed the soup pasta anyway. She told us that it was more important for them to have client satisfaction. Wow! Great service! It's very rare in Singapore! Definitely worth a visit just to try out a Japanese interpretation of an Italian staple and also to enjoy the friendly service (something which is most wanting in most Singapore restaurants).
