Claypot Crab Beehoon @ Mellben Seafood, Toa Payoh
January's Makanouting was to Mellben @ Toa Payoh. I was very excited about the outing as I love their crab beehoon and so I roped in 2 of my galfriends for the outing. They were ST & PP.
One of my favourite dishes for the evening was the Crispy Mellben Tofu. I loved the soft texture of the well-seasoned tofu within a crispy exterior which was not dripping with oil. Considering how hungry we all were by the time dinner started, this dish served as a nice starter to the meal.
I was recommended the Clos de Sixte 2003 by my friend, EC. I thought it was reasonably nice but I still preferred the Chateau Soutard that he recommended me for another dinner.
The highlight of the meal for everyone there was definitely the famous Claypot Crab Beehoon! The soup was robust, milky and filled with the sweetness of the fresh crab which dominated the centre of the pot. I was worried that there might not be enough to go round the table but the organizers had great foresight to order 2 claypots per table! Yippee!!! Gee, you should have seen the satisfied looks on ST & PP's faces! We felt like we were dining in heaven though we were in a humble coffeeshop in the heart of Toa Payoh! This is most definitely a MUST-TRY! I'm sooo craving my Mellben crab beehoon now!!! :P
