Mother's Day Promotion at The Boxing Crab

I was recently invited to a preview of a Mother's Day Set Menu at The Boxing Crab, located next to Underwater World in Sentosa.

Lovely view of Singapore mainland from Underwater World at Sentosa

As I was a little early, I took the opportunity to capture an image of the Singapore skyline at dusk.

Detox #Smoothie: Apple Juice, Celery Juice, Beetroot & Ginseng. #yummy

I had a glass of Detox Smoothie while waiting for the rest of the bloggers at our table to arrive. It was pretty good as it was neither too sweet nor did it have an overwhelming flavour of Ginseng. In all, a refreshing drink ahead of the meal.

Deep Fried Spiny Lobster Salad

The first course was Deep Fried Spiny Lobster that had been coated with salad cream. I enjoyed this course as the lobster was fresh and firm. Though Spiny Lobster flesh is generally not as sweet as Maine Lobster, it was nonetheless a delightful start to the meal.

Braised Treasure Chicken in Lotus Leaf - The Boxing Crab

Next, we had the Braised Treasure Chicken in Lotus Leaf. Though it isn't much to look at, it was chockful of flavour! The chicken was moist and falling off the bone. My favourite dish for the evening, this is a Must-Try!

Homemade Water Chestnut Bean Curd with Spiced Meat

Another dish with the taste of home, this is worth a try because of the lovely browned crust of the bean curd and the warm taste of Star Anise in the stewed minced pork sauce that it was served with.

Stir Fried Scallop & Prawn with Asparagus - The Boxing Crab

Presented in a pale bird-nest-like basket of deep-fried mung bean vermicelli, the stir fried seafood could have done with a pinch of salt to enhance the flavours.

Braised Chili Crab wrapped in Lotus Leaf & served with Deep-Fried Bun at The Boxing Crab

What's a visit to a Singapore-style seafood restaurant without the obligatory crab dish? Traditional Chili Crab with a twist, the version here is served wrapped in Lotus Leaf.

Braised Chili Crab at The Boxing Crab

The lotus leaf imparted a slight tea-like flavour to the dish and even though I am generally not a fan of Singapore-style Chili Crab, the sauce here was thankfully not as sweet as the ones served in some other seafood restaurants.

Braised Claypot Crab with Superior Broth & Pumpkin at The Boxing Crab

One of The Boxing Crab's specialities that is featured on the other set menu is the Braised Claypot Crab with Superior Broth & Pumpkin. The golden hue of the sauce is derived from the pumpkin purée and salted egg yolk. I preferred this to the chili crab dish although I think the sauce could have done with another salted egg yolk or two. Worth a try if you love crab, pumpkin and the sandy-textured savoury flavour of salted egg yolk.

Stir Fried Vermicelli with Seafood

The obligatory carb dish was pretty disappointing. The stir fried Mung Bean Vermicelli with Seafood was bland and would definitely have benefited from a little extra salt or soy sauce.

Red Bean Soup with Coconut & Lotus Seed

I was too full for dessert but I did try a spoonful just out of curiosity. Though I don't like red bean desserts, this wasn't too sweet and is worth a try.
