Water Margin @ Times Square, Hong Kong

It's been a little over year since I last visited Hong Kong. Hmm...maybe I should plan a trip soon.

Crispy Deboned Lamb Rib @ Water Margin, Times Square HK

During my previous visit, IT brought me to Water Margin @ Times Square in Causeway Bay for dinner. Water Margin specialises in Northern Chinese cuisine. She said that the Crispy Deboned Lamb Rack is absolutely delicious. I had to give them a try! She was right, the lamb was succulent with a fragrant and crispy exterior! This is definitely a MUST-TRY!

We also ordered a Szechuan Spicy Chicken dish. The dish was interestingly presented with a sea of Szechuan Peppers all over it and one had to rummage through the dish to look for the deep fried chicken pieces. Unfortunately during our visit, the chef must have forgotten to add salt and so the dish was pretty bland. IT was disappointed as its usually well done and very spicy. The waitress serving us noticed that we barely touched the chicken and asked if there was something wrong. We told her that it tasted bland, she offered to have it replaced but IT and I declined as we had quite a few other dishes anyway. I hope that this dish will taste better on our next visit.

Our next dish was Deep-Fried Tofu with Salted Egg Sauce. We both love salted eggs and so we enjoyed this dish immensely though the sauce was just a tad too oily for our liking. The tofu cubes were soft and the sauce had just the right amount of saltiness, it went perfectly with a bowl of steamed rice.

We had also ordered a Wintermelon with Salted Egg Sauce. We didn't enjoy it as much as the tofu but it was reasonably tasty. The sauce was less salty (maybe because it has less salted egg) and oily. I loved how it was presented with a wooden spoon for us to use as a serving spoon.

We were pretty stuffed by the end of the meal and were surprised when a dessert platter showed up. We hadn't ordered dessert but apparently the chef felt so bad about the chicken (we only ate a piece each out of the whole dish) that he wanted to compensate by giving us a complimentary dessert platter. Hmm...sweet gesture! It consisted of Chinese Egg White Souffle with Red Bean Stuffing, Lemon Jelly and Osmanthus Jelly (Gui Hua Gao). I loved the Osmanthus Jelly because of the fragrance of the Osmanthus flowers (gui hua), it also had a hint of Chinese Wine. The egg white souffle was very good, if only we weren't so stuffed. I don't really like red bean but this was ok as it wasn't too sweet. The lemon jelly was our least favourite but the platter was gratis so we're not complaining.
